It's easy to mistake the new green space between Broad and Reynolds streets as merely a park, but that would be a Common misperception.
Because the Augusta Common is wired for sound.
To prove the point, eight acts will grace two stages at the Augusta Common grand opening Saturday.
The Augusta Chronicle family stage will feature gospel great Esther Smith, local jazz combo Jerusalem Sounds, the Augusta Mini Theatre and Stephanie's Dancers from Evans.
The Reynolds Street stage lineup opens with Atlanta teen act Nia, a Destiny's Child-esque act with a positive pre-teen message. Following Nia will be Florida rap-rockers Nonpoint, who performed in Augusta in July with the Locobazooka tour. The Drifters, best known for the hits There Goes My Baby, Up On the Roof and Some Kind of Wonderful, follow, and country star Jamie O'Neal headlines with a low-key acoustic set.
A laser and fireworks show will end the event. Carson Daly, host of MTV's Total Request Live and NBC's late night talk show Last Call, will serve as emcee.
