0. Speakers Corner, an added designation of the Freedom of Speech comer, is intended to encourage free speech and expression. Special features, with a touch of whimsy, include podiums formed by a stone
replica of a soapbox, complete with "Ivory" labels, and a politician's stump, rendered in stone.

P. Augusta wall fountain - framed with cast stone to mirror the plan of the Augusta Common and featuring the seal of Augusta in bronze, mounted in the middle of the green-tiled field, suggestive of the new Augusta city flag. It is intended to celebrate the consolidation of our city and county governments, and is symbolic of the coming together of all of our citizens at the Augusta Common in downtown - everyone's park within everyone's neighborhood. i

Q. Interpretive plaques are placed at quarter points of the green space to add interest by presenting information and illustrations on the following subjects: James Edward Oglethorpe - focusing on his role in founding our city. Augusta - "Key to the Indian Country " - covering our early days and function as an Indian trading center. Original Augusta Common - its intended function and its situation between the town and township lots. New Augusta Common - how it came to be, and what its goals and functions are.

R. Augusta Common project plaque - giving information on the participants in the project, with emphasis on the Augusta Commission, State of Georgia, Augusta Tomorrow, Inc., and Augusta Neighborhood Improvement Corporation, along with the names of mayor, commissioners, key city staff members, designers, and contractors.

S. Notice boards - providing places for posting messages of coming events and other changing messages, within secure, weather-resistant enclosures located at two entrances to the park.

AUGUSTA COMMON

The new Augusta Common is intended to be the heart of the city center, serving as a central gathering place for special events and everyday activities, and as a catalyst for economic revitalization. It is symbolic of the coming together of all of the community's citizens at a common place in Augusta's downtown - at everyone's park within everyone's neighborhood.
