Museums & Educational Centers

Morris Museum of Art
Dedicated to the art of the South, the Morris Museum of Art is a don't-miss stroll right off Augusta's Riverwalk.

Augusta Museum of History
Permanent exhibitions include the award winning Augusta's Story - 12,000 years of local history from early Indians through Susan Still's 1997 space shuttle mission; the community's medical history, a restored 1917 steam locomotive and a reconstructed 1930's gas station. Visitors will clean cotton in a replica cotton gin and view a 56-foot Petersburg boat that speaks to river and commercial activities; documentaries shown continuously in the History Theater. Located at 560 Reynolds Street.
Historic Cotton Exchange Welcome Center
The tall, red brick building at Eighth and Reynolds streets in Augusta reeks of history. After all, it is a museum, a testament to the huge cotton market in Augusta in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But when cotton was king in Augusta, Georgia and the South, the three-story building was called the Augusta Cotton Exchange, where men (only) came to trade the white gold.
Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History
The Lucy Craft Laney Museum is the only African American Museum in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA, Augusta and its Surrounding Areas). The museum, which opened in 1991, is a small house museum that was the former home of Miss Lucy Craft Laney. The museum is located in the Historic Laney-Walker District, near the original site of the Haines Normal Institute, now called the Lucy Craft Laney High School.
Fort Discovery
"Science is fun" is the motto of the demonstrators who guide visitors through the many exhibit areas. And they firmly believe that fun is contagious. From a trip to Mars (aboard a full-motion simulator), to a theater experience where you travel through time (the special effects will "wow" you), to a high-wire bicycle ride (counterweights keep you safe), learning is truly an adventure at Fort Discovery.
Georgia Golf Hall of Fame
If you've driving down Reynolds Street, between 12th and 13th streets, you've probably noticed construction crews busily working to make the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame a reality.
