Alcohol: Legal drinking age is 21. Proper identification with
a photograph must be shown at the time of purchase or on request.
Persons under 21 can patronize restaurants but cannot enter
nightclubs that do not serve food. No alcoholic beverage can
be carried in an open container, in an automobile or on any
public property. Do not drink and drive. Alcohol is not sold
on Sunday (except in restaurants).
Cigarettes: Legal age for purchasing cigarettes and other
tobacco products is 18.
Smoking: Many restaurants, shops and public places are smoke-free.
Some, however, have different sections for smokers and non-smokers
alike and are marked with signs.
Tipping: It is customary to tip people who provide the following
services (Figures are approximate and vary with type of establishment
and level of service provided).
- Airport Baggage Porter (including curbside check-in) or
hotel bellman: $1-1.25 per bag.
- Hotel Maid Service $1 per day
- Parking Valet $1-2, paid upon return of the car.
- Waiter / Waitress 15-20%, although sometimes gratuity
is included in your bill for a group of six or more.
- Restaurant Wine Steward / Sommelier 15-20% of the price
of the wine.
- Bartender 15%
- Hair Stylist 15-20%
- Taxicab Driver 15-20%
Restrooms: Also known as toilets, the bathroom, the men's
room, the ladies room. They are marked with international
symbol of a man or woman along with the words Men, Gentlemen,
Women, or Ladies.
