Sergio Garcia

Europeans almost owned the Masters for two decades, with five victories in the ’80s and six in the ’90s, but none since Jose Maria Olazabal’s second green jacket in 1999. Many believe that Sergio Garcia is the most likely European to resume those winning ways. Garcia won twice in the U.S. and once in Europe in 2004 and was one of Europe’s leaders in their Ryder Cup rout becoming only the sixth player in history to win four out of a possible five points.

Garcia plays Augusta National well, finishing in a tie for fourth last year, eighth in 2002, and he was the low amateur in 1999. He ended 2004 ranked number nine—on both the U.S. money list and in the world rankings.

Garcia has that slashing, attacking game that brought cheers and victories for Seve Ballesteros and Arnold Palmer at the Masters, and he could change those fans into Garcia’s Gallery in 2005.
