Who's hot, who's not

Who's Hot: David Howell

The first-time participant from England reeled off five birdies in the second round to grab a share of the lead Friday.

Howell, one of the few to complete his first round Thursday, began the day at even-par 72 and started on the back nine. He birdied Nos. 10, 11, 13, 15 and 16 before play was suspended for the second straight day. He will resume play today on the 18th green, where he has a 6-foot putt for 31 on the back side.

Who' Not: Gary Player

The first international golfer to win the Masters soared to his highest score ever at Augusta National with an opening-round 88. His previous high score was 82.

Player started his second round on the back nine Friday and made a birdie on the long par-4 10th. But he added bogeys at the 11th and 12th holes, made par at the 13th and ended with a double bogey at the 14th when play was called for the day. Going back to 2002, Player has broken 80 only once in seven rounds at Augusta National.

Wildcard: Charle Coody

The 1971 Masters winner shot 39 on Friday to start his second round. It was a marked improvement from his opening round Thursday, when he shot 43-45–88.

Coody, who has not made the Masters cut since 1993, began his day with a birdie on the difficult first hole. He added bogeys on Nos. 3, 6 and 7 before making his second birdie of the day at the eighth. He finished with a double bogey on the ninth when play was called because of bad weather moving into the area.
