Few profit from Round 1 delay

Only 4 who finished late fared better

It was a mixed bag Friday morning for the 18 golfers who had to return to Augusta National Golf Club to complete their first round.

Four improved their status, four stayed the same, and 10 took a turn for the worse.

The players were forced to return at 8:45 a.m. Friday because rain, then darkness, interrupted play in the opening round of the 68th Masters Tournament.

Tiger Woods (Stats | Bio) and Mike Weir (Stats | Bio) were both 4-over par when play was suspended at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Woods came out firing on the par-5 15th on Friday and made birdie. He then parred the final three holes to finish with 75.

Woods carried his momentum from the morning into the second round and shot 69.

Weir, the defending champion, wasn't as fortunate. On his final hole Thursday, the 15th, he found the water and made double bogey to go to 4-over par for the day.

It didn't get any better Friday, as he bogeyed the final three holes to cap a disappointing 79.

Weir regrouped and came back to shoot 70 in Friday's second round, but it wasn't enough to make the cut.

"My all-around game hasn't been sharp, but today it was a lot better,'' Weir said.

Amateur Nick Flanagan (Stats | Bio) stumbled down the stretch, too.

Three-over through 15 holes Thursday, he birdied the 16th before taking a triple-bogey on the 17th and a bogey on the 18th.
