ACED: The 2005 Masters Tournament had only one hole in one after three in 2004.

South African Trevor Immelman aced No. 16 with a 7-iron in the next-to-last pairing.

"I was a little down coming to the tee," Immelman said. "I was in between clubs. I wanted an 8-iron, and my caddie said it was a nice 7-iron.

"That is why I pay him so much. I think I jumped 10 feet off the ground."

Immelman said his last previous ace was at the Dutch Open three years ago.

"My caddie changed the club there, too," he said. "I definitely should listen to him."

The ace was the 10th at No. 16, following ones by Padraig Harrington and Kirk Triplett last year, and the 18th in Masters history.

Immelman finished at 4-under par for the tournament, landing him in a tie for fifth place. His two previous Masters appearances resulted in a 56th-place finish and a missed cut last year.

DONALD REBOUNDS: Luke Donald recovered nicely after posting a third-round score of 5-over-par 77 to finish tied for third place when he shot 6-under par over the final eight holes of the last round.

Donald was tied for the lead after 20 holes but faded during the third round.

Still, he said, "if someone had given me three rounds in the 60s on my debut, I'd have taken it. The course can take a lot away from you quickly."

Donald was down to 1-over par during the final round but holed a birdie chip from the rough on No. 11 to get back to even par.

The Englishman then eagled Nos. 13 and 15 and birdied No. 16 to get to 5-under.

Thomas Bjorn accomplished the double-eagle feat on Nos. 13 and 15 during the second round. He accomplished the double-bogey feat on Nos. 2 and 12 during the final round.

ROUND OF THE DAY: Two-time U.S. Open winner Retief Goosen carded the best round Sunday, shooting 5-under-par 67 to tie with Donald for third place.

"It was nice," he said. "I played well 2 to 3 rounds ... played really solid. The putter was still ice cold. Could've been a better round."

ELS' WORST PERFORMANCE: Ernie Els had his worst Masters showing since he missed the cut in 1995, shooting 10-over par to finish in 47th place.

There was speculation that Els had a high fever and was battling a cold, but he never mentioned it publicly. Els shot even-par in the final round to stay at 10-over par, after shooting 6-over par in the third round.

"Game wasn't there," he said. "That's it. Move on. ... I don't want to make excuses."

Els finished his final round Sunday before the other three members of the "Big Four" teed off.

HERRON WILL BE BACK: Tim Herron has played in six Masters and missed the cut four times.

He missed qualifying for the tournament from 2001-03 but will be guaranteed a return next year after finishing tied for 11th place.

Herron shot even-par in the final round and finished 2-under par for the tournament.

"It's a step in the right direction," Herron said. "I still need to work on my short game under the gun. I heard the roars. This golf course is so hard, you just keep plugging."

HOWELL RECOVERS: David Howell recovered from a third-round 76, with a 3-under-par final round to get to 2-under par for the tournament.

Howell's finish tied him for 11th place and ensured a return trip to Augusta National Golf Club next year.

"I am very pleased," he said. "My best finish in America, my best finish in a major. I'm back next year, I feel like I've had a few years' experience in one week."

UP AND DOWN: Mark Hensby's final round was, well, inconsistent.

The 33-year-old Australian, who was playing in his first Masters, started the final round at 4-under par. He got to 5-under before sinking as low as 2-under par. He birdied Nos. 12, 15 and 16 before bogeying No, 18 and finished where he started, at 4-under par.

"It was beyond my wildest dreams to finish the way I did," he said. "I played really well coming in. You have to be really on it. It was a great experience."

EVERYBODY LOVES THE MASTERS: Ray Romano, the star of the CBS comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, sat in the press and member bleachers on Amen Corner during Sunday's final round. Romano stayed in the bleachers for about six groupings and was wearing a Tiger Woods Nike hat.

CHASING AMY: Chad Campbell's approach shot on No. 8 didn't end up where it was intended.

His shot went up in the air and then took an abrupt left turn.

"Then it hit a tree and started bouncing," he said. "Easy shot back, just in a tough spot."

From that tree, it bounded downward, nearly clipping a group of female patrons that included Amy Mickelson. The ball skipped below the heels of the three-person group and landed just inside a red line marking the patch of flora well left of the No. 8 green.

Where it stopped was a patch of azaleas. Campbell chipped the ball 12 feet or so back to the fairway. He finished with 75 for the round and even for the tournament.

PERSEVERING: Fred Couples tied Tom Watson with his 21st consecutive made cut Saturday. And he managed to last through four rounds.

Battling back problems, Couples went back to the course early Sunday to finish his third round. Before his final round, he questioned going back out.

"I thought, 'How in the hell am I going to play this afternoon?'" Couples said. "Then some guys suggested some heat."

He made it through 13 holes of his final round just fine. But from No. 14 on, he played through the pain. Still, he managed a final-round 72 to finish at 7-over-par 295.
