Patrick Reed knows all about moments in the sun at Augusta.

However, he’d love to see those rays shine even brighter on golf's biggest stage this week at the Masters Tournament.

Reed, 27, led Augusta State to back-to-back NCAA Division I national titles in 2010 and 2011. Today, he will tee it up in his fifth consecutive Masters looking to improve on a career-best tie for 22nd finish in 2015.

Reed has played well of late, tying for second at the Valspar Championship and taking down past Masters champion Jordan Spieth at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play.

“Golf is about confidence,” Reed said. “I feel like it’s something we have going into this week.”

Reed has stated several times that learning to putt the difficult greens at Augusta National is a key to his success.

He spent nearly an hour putting on the practice green near the 10th tee Wednesday. He went around the hole about five times making putts at different lengths.

“My putting is going well,” Reed said. “I feel most comfortable and confident so far this year on the greens. That’s something I do every Wednesday around the clock before I play. It’s nothing new.”

What was new for many to witness? When Tiger Woods also departed the putting green with a smile, after placing all off Reed’s clubs upside down in his bag.

Both had a laugh.

“Tiger and I like to go back and forth a little bit,” Reed said. “He came over to see how I was doing this morning. And I did the same thing. He was hitting putts to my hole, so I was hitting his putts about 30 feet away.”

Reed smiled when talking about the stunt Woods played on him. He looked relaxed.

“I’m definitely a lot more comfortable than I have been in the past here and feel better about everything going into the week,” Reed said. “So I’m just going to go out and take it one day and one shot a time.”
