The world’s top-ranked golfer spent another day flying under the radar at Augusta National Golf Club.

Dustin Johnson shot 4-under-par 68 on Friday in the second round of the Masters Tournament to sit at 3-under overall. Despite creeping up the leaderboard when the popular move was to go backward, he finds himself avoiding the headlines.

The 33-year-old, who entered the Masters at No. 1 in the world golf rankings, hasn’t received the same attention this week with the return of Tiger Woods and a first-round charge by Jordan Spieth, as well as a second-round onslaught by Patrick Reed.

The steady Johnson has used it to his favor by again putting himself in contention entering the weekend after consecutive top 10 finishes in 2015-16.

The Columbia native carded three birdies and an eagle in the second round after posting 73 on Thursday.

The highlight was an eagle on No. 2 when he chipped in from just off the green, an obvious improvement from the first round when he found the trees left off the tee and made bogey on the par 5.

After a bogey on No. 5 for the second consecutive day, Johnson posted birdie on No. 8 by hitting his short approach to two feet. He recovered from the trees on No. 13 to make birdie and finish 4-under on the par 5s.

His recovery highlight came on No. 16 when his ball rolled down the green’s steep hill on his putt from the fringe, and he sank the comeback, 44-foot putt for par, drawing a fist pump from Johnson. He finished strong by hitting his approach on No. 18 to 10 feet and making the putt for birdie.
