Golfers smile for cameras, sign autographs for fans

SMILE AND BE POLITE: Collecting autographs from golfing greats occupied Bryce Hoss during Wednesday’s Par-3 Contest at Augusta National Golf Club.

Bryce, 13, of Irvine, Calif., leaned over the rope near the Par-3 Course practice putting green to catch the attention of 1998 Masters Tournament champion Mark O’Meara. O’Meara joined Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and other golfers who signed Bryce’s white Par-3 Contest souvenir flag.

“One golfer I’m hoping to get is Adam Scott,” Bryce said, adding that Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson were also on his list. “(I’ll stay) as long as it takes to get theirs.”

The key to collecting autographs is being polite and smiling big, Bryce said. When he returns to California, Bryce plans to hang the flag on his bedroom wall.

KODAK MOMENTS: Photos of iconic Augusta National landmarks were among the hundreds of snapshots Rawlings Johnson, of Atlanta, took Wednesday. Johnson was documenting his first trip to the Masters to show his family when he returned home.

“It’s once in a lifetime to capture these pictures to have for the rest of my life,” Johnson said.

Tony Kennedy, also of Atlanta, walked the Par-3 Course with Johnson and carried his own camera to add photos to his collection of Masters images. He brought a long-range lens to get close-up shots of golfers.

Kennedy planned to show off photos to his family and frame the best.
