Adam Scott celebrates his win on the second playoff hole of the 2013 Masters.

Adam Scott secured his first Green Jacket, the first for Australia, in a playoff after a strong run of birdies on the second nine of the 77th Masters on Sunday.

Scott secured his first Green Jacket after a remarkable birdie putt on 18 for a three under par 69 on Sunday forced Cabrera to match.

Scott won the tournament on the second playoff hole over Angel Cabrera, both of which advanced over Jason Day to play extra golf.

Remarkable birdie efforts on the 18th hole, first by Scott then by Cabrera, forced the playoff.

Scott becomes the first Australian to win the tournament, avenging second place finishes by Greg Norman in 1986, 1987 and 1996.

Cabrera made the turn at  nine under, but bogeys at 10 and 13 cost him the lead to Day.

Through Amen Corner, Cabrera lead Day by one shot, Leishman and Scott by two and Snedeker by three, with three others at four under.

Brandt Snedeker turned a strong position at the start of the day into a poor showing, three over par through 14 to fall out of contention, a similar experience to his performance in 2008, when he shot 77 on Sunday to fall to Trevor Immelman.

Tiger Woods couldn't make up for Friday's two stroke penalty on Sunday, finishing at five under par, shooting 70 on the day. He started his round at  three under, fell to one under with bogeys on five and seven, before birdies on nine, 10, 13 and 15 got him back into the hunt.

Thorbjorn Olesen finished at four under par after 68s on both days of the weekend to make the top 10. Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood finished up at three under, both going under par on Sunday.

John Huh ended up at two under, while Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Dustin Johnson, David Toms and Nick Watney finished up at one under par.

Branden Grace and Henrik Stenson were the only others at even or better, both shooting 69s on Sunday to stay at even.
