Augusta National Golf Club has beefed up security to the most famous entrance in golf.

Bollards – short, vertical posts used to control traffic – were installed across Magnolia Lane while the club was closed over the summer.

The five posts are retractable and can be controlled by security guards at the front gate off Washington Road if they need to stop or divert a vehicle.

As the home of the Masters Tournament, Magnolia Lane and the main entrance are popular spots for tourists hoping to get a glimpse inside the gates.

A large, green screen was put up at the entrance while the work was completed.

The installation is just the latest upgrade Augusta National has made to club security in recent years, which has included enhancements at all of the major entrances and new routes for pedestrians and vehicles.

In October, a South Dakota couple was banned from club grounds after an altercation when they entered at Magnolia Lane.

In that incident, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, a woman drove onto club grounds at Magnolia Lane and then her husband got out and began taking pictures.

The most famous incident at Augusta National didn’t involve Magnolia Lane. In October 1983, President Ronald Reagan’s round of golf at Augusta National was cut short when a gunman crashed through an unmanned gate with his truck and demanded to see the president. Charles Harris held five hostages in the pro shop for two hours before he was finally subdued by Secret Service agents.
