Rickie Fowler keeps momentum with his best Masters finish

An up-and-down year for Rickie Fowler took a major step forward with a strong Masters showing.

Fowler put together his best finish at Augusta National in four trips by shooting 2-under and tying for fifth.

Fowler, 25, shot 5-under 67 in Saturday’s third round and vaulted himself into contention entering the final day. He took a slight step backward with a final-round 73 Sunday, but it was easily his best showing at the Masters.

His previous best was tied for 27th in 2012.

“It’s a big step forward for me, especially after all these missed cuts,” Fowler said. “I’ve had to kind of grind it out and get on top of my game here. I’m definitely happy with it and looking forward to a fun week off and get back at it.”

Fowler made seven cuts in 11 tournaments leading to the Masters. He finished sixth at the Shell Houston Open last week.

“It feels good for myself to be back up in contention the last few weeks, and especially being here at Augusta in a major,” he said.
