Rory McIlroy rebounds to post top-10 finish
Rory McIlroy’s improved weekend play was enough to earn him a top-10 showing in his sixth Masters.
McIlroy shot 3-under 69 Sunday and finished even par and tied for eighth.
The 24-year-old from Northern Ireland was in the first pairing after the cut Saturday, and he shot 71 to rebound from a second-round 77.
In the final round, McIlroy made six birdies in tying his second-lowest round at Augusta National.
“Hopefully, I can start seeing a few more putts go in, and get more confidence, because my long game is where I need it to be,” he said. “It’s just taking advantage of the good shots that I’m hitting.”
McIlroy said he’s started to gain confidence playing Augusta National. He had his best finish this year and has made the cut five out of six tries.
“I feel more comfortable here,” he said. “I feel like I can go out and play my game and hit the shots. I’m definitely not as tentative around this place as I used to be. I’m becoming a lot more aggressive and hitting iron shots closer.”
