Smylie Kaufman tumbles in final round

Smylie Kaufman started the day in the final pairing with defending champion Jordan Spieth. He was hoping to become the first Masters rookie to win a green jacket since Fuzzy Zoeller took one home in 1979.

But the 24-year-old from Birmingham, Ala., never got in a groove, going 3-over par on the front nine and shooting 42 on the back to card 81.

After dropping in an 11-foot birdie putt at No. 12, Kaufman followed with bogey at the par-5 13th hole.

He double bogeyed the 16th and came home with bogeys at Nos. 17 and 18.

Kaufman fell into a tie for 29th, finishing at 7-over in his first appearance at Augusta.
