Bring your dancing shoes to Club 706

It's Saturday, and a couple and one young lady dominate the dance floor at Club 706 on Deans Bridge Road.

In the back of the club, a group of early twentysomething men watch basketball on the big-screen television while a handful of late twentysomethings shoot pool up front by the bar.

Clusters of friends and loners at the bar or at the tables sip on fruit-flavored martinis or Long Island iced teas, or munch on finger food from the buffet or the kitchen.

The club-goers bobbed their heads in sync with the music and shot occasional glances of amazement toward the DJ booth. DJ Greg Nyce moved swiftly, constantly picking records from his crates and switching out what he'd just put on the turntables - creating a blend of the latest hip-hop with a smidgen of R&B, by mixing and scratching in such a tricky yet meticulous manner that you wanted to ask, "How'd he do that?"

When the hard-hitting drums from the dance track Milkshake by Kelis bumped from the speakers, seats and bar stools were left empty as the clubbers flooded the dance floor - and Mr. Nyce kept them there with hits such as Outkast's The Way You Move and Hey Ya and Lil' Jon's Get Low.

Club 706 is for people 21 and older. Doors usually open at 9 p.m. Thursday-Saturday but will be open tonight for a New Year's Eve party that includes free trips to the champagne fountain, party favors and a midnight buffet for $10.

On Moet Saturdays, pay $7 and drink free Moet champagne from 9 to 11 p.m. On first Saturdays, there are male reviews with the Hot Boys, which are popular for bachelorette parties, according to owner Tony Clayton.

The club also features the Next Level Comedy Tour, a monthly show with comedians. Comedian J. B. Smoove - who had roles in Adam Sandler's Mr. Deeds and in Chris Rock's Pootie Tang and starred on Cedric the Entertainer Presents - will do shows Jan. 16-17.

On Thursday nights at Club 706 are Kutt Boyz Live ladies' nights. All music is broadcast live on radio station WPRW-FM (107.7), as the station's night DJs, Craig Boogie and DJ Night Train, share the turn tables with Mr. Nyce. Cover costs $5 for guys, but is free until midnight for women.

Friday night's features include the liquid buffet and birthday parties. Mr. Nyce spins old school and R&B, and a $7 entry fee covers bar drinks until midnight. If given advance notice, Club 706 will provide free birthday cake to help friends celebrate, with catering optional for a small fee.

The club's menu includes wings, shrimp, fish and chicken fingers, ranging from $4 to $7.
