Stankowski Diary: At least there's the Seniors

Web posted 04/13/97

I know one thing - when I get out on the senior tour, I'm going to have six years out there before Tiger Woods is there.

He just played phenomenal golf, with an exclamation point.

I think he can do this here every year. If he drives the ball well here, he's got wedges to the greens. He can still win the tournament even if he doesn't drive the ball well.

Overall, I'm pleased with the way I played this week and disappointed in the way I played this week, if that makes sense.

I'm pleased with the fifth-place finish. I gave it my best, which is all I can really hope for. I just didn't hit the ball very well on Sunday and didn't putt very good for the long haul.

I played the par-5s one over par on Sunday. A guy with my length doesn't do that. That in itself is very disappointing.

To finish tied for fifth place in my second Masters, I'm really encouraged. Obviously, I couldn't have won this week, but I made a lot of mistakes and it could have been a lot better.

I think I can win this tournament. I definitely have the game. If I'm on, I can do it. Although I didn't putt great, I only had two three-putt greens this week.

It's going to be neat when I beat Tiger here someday. Maybe he won't play that year.

It's been five minutes since I finished and I feel better. I made the top 10 so I got more Ryder Cup points. In fact, the points are doubled for a major championship.

Since I finished tied for fifth place, I know I'll be back next year as a top 24 finisher. I'm looking forward to it already.
