PLAYER HONORED: Three-time Masters winner Gary Player will be honored today at the Mayor's Masters Reception at the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame's Botanical Gardens on Reynolds Street.
Player, the first foreign player to win at Augusta National, will tie Arnold Palmer's record with his 50th start in the Masters this week. The South African golfer said he plans on playing at least one more year to break the record.
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver has declared today Gary Player Day, and he will present him with a key to the city.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include free samples from several local restaurants. Admission is free.
ADAPTIVE CLINIC: Three players with ties to Augusta will put on a clinic for golfers with disabilities today at Augusta Municipal Golf Course on Highland Avenue.
Charles Howell and Vaughn Taylor, who are both in the Masters field this week, and Champions Tour regular Jim Dent are scheduled to participate.
The third annual event begins at 7:45 a.m. The U.S. Golf Association will present Walton Foundation for Independence a grant check for its FORE Everyone Adaptive Golf Program, and after the clinic a tournament that matches three golfers with a player who has a disability will be held.
