About the Fedex Cup
In 2007, the PGA Tour altered its format, adopting a seasonlong points competition called the FedEx Cup. This competition - spanning 37 weeks - divides the PGA Tour season into two parts: the regular season and the playoffs for the FedEx Cup.
The regular season consists of 36 events in 33 weeks. Players accumulate points to determine their seeding for the playoffs.
The top 144 players will be eligible for the playoff, where the points will be reset.
The playoffs consist of four events, played from August to September, and will determine the winner of the FedEx Cup.
The top 30 finishers will be guaranteed a Tour exemption for the following year. The playoffs feature a progressive cut through the first three events to determine the final 30 players.
Regular-season events will award 25,000 total points. The four majors and The Players Championship will award 27,500. World Golf Championships events award 26,250 points and playoff events will award 50,000.
The FedEx Cup champion is awarded a $10 million bonus, the largest single payout in sports.
