YOU MISSED A SPOT: An addition to the course this year focuses more on cleanliness than golf: the napkin.

Bob Margolin, a Williamsburg, Va., resident, was pleased to see the added napkin stands just outside the course's food tents.

"I like them," he said, adding it won't cause a cleanup problem. "I've never seen a course where people (the patrons) keep it as clean as this."

The new stands also hold items that could make napkins necessary: mustard and mayonnaise, along with salt and pepper packets.

TAKEN IN BY THE VIEW: Steve and Pam Hoover, of Houston, were amazed at the pristine condition of the course Tuesday only minutes after entering the front gate.

"We're still in awe," Hoover said seconds after having his picture taken with his wife in front of the main scoreboard.

The couple said that because their hobby is landscaping and because Houston has such a flat landscape, they were in azalea heaven at Augusta National Golf Club.

"They tell me TV doesn't do it justice - even HDTV," he said. "We're really interested to see the hills and all the azaleas in bloom."

FAN WITH UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE: Billy Warner, a Boca Raton, Fla., resident, was on his 12th visit to the Masters. Through the years, he said, he has come to prefer one particular spot on the course.

"We like Amen Corner," he said with his wife, Jean, by his side.

He said he actually played the course once at the invitation of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn. The difference in playing versus watching from behind a rope?

"It's night and day," he said.

The one-time experience, though, won't spur him to offer any advice to this week's field of golfers.

"No, I'm smarter than that," he said with a chuckle.

ROOTING FOR THE HOME TEAM: Pam Meyer's visit to Augusta National wasn't her first, but the Augusta resident was planning to make the most of her time, cheering on one player in particular.

"I want to see Vaughn Taylor," she said of the Augusta resident and former member of Augusta State University's golf team. "I graduated with his daddy."

Meyer said she graduated with Jack Taylor at Butler High School in 1967, when she went by her maiden name, Pam Shaw.

She said she also was looking for another Augusta player Tuesday: Charles Howell.

Meyer was accompanied by friends Mike and Nancy Missey and 9-year-old Jazmyne Missey, who has her own favorite: "I want to go see Tiger Woods."
