Jerry Kelly moves up the leaderboard on front nine

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Jerry Kelly, not Tiger Woods or Vijay Singh, made the Friday lunch time move up the leaderboard at the Masters Tournament.

The little-known PGA Tour veteran made three birdies in four holes on the first nine of Augusta National Golf Club to improve to 1-under par through 27 holes. Kelly, a Wisconsin native, shot a 3-over 75 in Thursday's opening round.

Kelly's strong start left him three shots behind 18-hole co-leader Brett Wetterich. Wetterich opened his second round at 3-under par and had yet to make a bogey through 14 holes. He birdied the par-4 ninth hole to get to 4-under for the tournament.

Woods and Singh continued their lackluster Thursday afternoon play on Friday morning. Woods made three bogeys in his first seven holes. He birdied No. 8, though, and was 3-over for his first 27 holes of the tournament. He opened the day at 1-over par.

Singh briefly hovered near the top of the leaderboard Friday morning. He opened the second round at 1-over par and birdied Nos. 2 and 6 to get to 1-under and fourth place. He bogeyed the par-4 seventh hole, however, and was even par through seven holes.

Many of the first-round leaders had yet to begin Friday's rounds as of 1 p.m. Justin Rose, who shared the 18-hole lead with Wetterich at 3-under, is in the last group of the day and tees off at 2:14 p.m.

Rich Beem and J.J. Henry will also tee off later this afternoon. Beem and Henry were tied for fifth place, two shots behind Rose and Wetterich, following Thursday's opening round.
