Woods moves up the leaderboard to 1-over
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Tiger Woods moves up, just about everyone else drops back.
So it goes Saturday afternoon at the Masters Tournament.
Woods moved within two shots of the lead late in his third round at Augusta National Golf Club. Woods, 3-over par through 36 holes, was 2-under through 13 holes and 1-over for the tournament.
The score left Woods, a four-time Masters champion, tied for second and chasing the tournament's new leader, Stuart Appleby. The Aussie veteran made three straight birdies early in his Saturday round to get to 2-under for the tournament. He dropped back to 1-under with a bogey at No. 7.
The 36-hole co-leaders, Brett Wetterich and Tim Clark, steadily slid down the leaderboard Saturday afternoon. Wetterich fell off of it with two bogeys and a triple bogey in his first four holes. He was 3-over for the tournament through six holes of his third round.
Clark dropped four shots in his first five holes. He bogeyed Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 to fall into a tie for eighth place at 2-over.
Augusta native Vaughn Taylor found early bogeys as well. He opened the day one shot off the lead at 1-under only to bogey Nos. 1 and 6. He was tied for second with Woods, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Jerry Kelly and Justin Rose at 1-over.
Temperatures in the 30s greeted golfers and patrons Saturday morning. A brisk wind made it feel even colder. The wind chill factor was 34 degrees as of 11 a.m.
Patrons reacted to the cold accordingly. Augusta National's main souvenir shop, located between the entrance gate and the course entrance, sold out of stocking caps in less than 15 minutes.
The temperature reached 50 degrees by the time the leaders teed off at 3 p.m., although the winds continued to swirl.
