Johnson takes the lead
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Zach Johnson exited Amen Corner shouting hallelujah Sunday afternoon, birdieing No. 13 and following with another birdie at No. 14 to take a two-shot lead in the Masters Tournament.
The 31-year-old with a single PGA Tour win to his credit was at 1-over through 14 holes. Retief Goosen, who led the tournament as the players on the leaderboard began the tournament's final nine holes, bogeyed the par-3 12th hole and was tied with Tiger Woods in second place as of 5:30 p.m.
Woods eagled No. 13 to get back into contention. He hit approach shot at the 510-yard, par-5 hole to within three feet of the hole and tapped in for the eagle. Woods started the day one shot off the lead and is playing in the day's final pairing along with 54-hole leader Stuart Appleby.
Woods is seeking his third straight major championship victory and the fifth Masters Tournament win of his career.
Padraig Harrington, Jerry Kelly, Justin Rose and Rory Sabbatini were tied for fourth place, three shots behind Johnson.
Sabbatini briefly led the tournament at 2-over through 13 holes but bogeyed Nos. 14 and 16 to fall back off the lead.
Appleby wilted under the pressure of leading the Masters after three rounds. He double bogeyed No. 1 after slicing his tee shot right of the fairway and nearly under a row of bushes.
He later double bogeyed No. 12, Augusta National's signature hole, when he hit his tee shot into Rae's Creek. He was 5-over through 13 holes, four shots off the lead.
