The purse for the winner of the 2006 Masters Tournament will be unchanged from last year. The winner will get a check for $1,260,000, out of a total purse of $7 million.
As of now, the Masters has the second-largest purse of the four major championships, and the highest among the three played in the United States. The majors traditionally don't announce their purses until the week of the tournament.
Last year, the U.S. Open and PGA Championship paid out $6.5 million total and $1,170,000 to the winner, and the British Open (in U.S. dollars, at the exchange rate when the tournament was played), paid $7,008,800, with $1,261,584 to the winner.
The Players Championship ($8 million) and the three World Golf Championship events ($7.5 million) pay more than the majors.
