Conditions for the first practice round were less than ideal. First it rained. Then the winds roared across Augusta National.

The windy conditions Monday forced many patrons to walk around with one hand on their heads to better secure their hats and visors from blowing away.

Sometimes, even being aware of the blustery weather wasn't enough.

"I lost my hat down on (Amen Corner), just after my husband told me to be careful," said Sue McManus, of northern Virginia. She scurried away and was able to retrieve the hat she had bought at the gift shop shortly after arriving at the course.
