Fun of Par-3 is what lures golfers

Boo Weekley is going to take part in today's Par-3 Contest, but that doesn't mean he's in it to win it.
"I don't want to win it," he said. "I don't know nothing about it, but I don't want to win it."
Weekley's lack of enthusiasm for winning on the eve of the Masters Tournament's opening round likely stems from the fact that no Par-3 winner has ever won a green jacket the same year.
Last year, Rory Sabbatini shot 5-under 22 on the 1,060-yard, 9-hole course. Like Par-3 champions before him, Sabbatini fell victim to its alleged curse, missing the cut after shooting rounds of 75 and 74.
If Weekley doesn't want to win the Par-3, then why play at all?
The answer: Weekley's 7-year-old son, Thomas Parker, will caddie for him.
"It's going to be awesome," Weekley said. "For him to be able to do it for the first time is great."
As for the tournament, he said Tuesday's practice round, played in chilly and windy conditions, offers little insight on how the course will play come Thursday.
"It's cold, the wind is blowing hard and the golf course is real difficult right now," Weekley said. "If we had to play in this, I'd say shooting 80 would be a good score right now.
"It's going to warm up and be better and be just another golf course. And you just got to go out and play it the best you can play it."
