Oliver Wilson Diary: Par-3 is all about relaxing
Masters Week is a homecoming of sorts for 28-year-old Englishman Oliver Wilson, who played for Augusta State University from 2000 to 2003. Wilson became the school's only three-time All-American and as a senior was briefly ranked the No. 1 collegiate golfer. Wilson is sharing his experiences in his Masters debut with The Augusta Chronicle in a diary.
It was a bit of a good day. I didn't go out on the course. I worked on a bit of everything. I was trying to get a bit more comfortable. I hit a few more balls than I did earlier in the week. Everything feels OK.
I was just trying to get the strike how I wanted. I was a little steep. I tried to flatten that out a little. Just working on the same type of things that I normally work on.
I played all right out there in the Par-3. That was nice and relaxing, a bit of fun. It's hard to concentrate, but it's such a fun event.
It's just nice to enjoy it and relax and have a good time, really.
It was cool on the first tee. I didn't have any nerves out there. ...
Hitting the flag on No. 9 was nice. I chipped in at No. 8. I did have two three-putts. I just hit them in the wrong place. It was a bit of a shame.
(Boo Weekley) and I just put our names together. We're good friends. In the Ryder Cup, Boo and I got along well out there. He's a good guy. So we put our names down and that's the way it worked out. Boo's a fun guy.
I just want to go and play well (today). Hopefully, I'll go and play well.
I play with Sergio Garcia and Stuart Appleby (today). It's a good pairing. I look forward to it.
I'm starting to get a little more comfortable out here. It takes you a few days to get settled. I feel great.
Most of my friends are in town. It's good having them here. I don't have any plans (for Wednesday night).
I just plan to relax and stay out of anything that is going on, really.
