Daly hawking merchandise

John Daly, puffing on a Marlboro, stepped forward to greet some fans.
"What's happening, guys?" he said, smiling from behind two long tables piled with hats, shirts and other souvenirs.
Looking slimmer than usual -- and dressed in a T-shirt and jeans -- the 42-year-old pro golfer spent Friday just outside the gates of Augusta National Golf Club.
"We've actually been here since Tuesday," said his girlfriend, Anna Cladakis, who helped Daly peddle memorabilia to a steady stream of fans. "We started with a whole trailer, and this is all we've got left. We'll be sold out by the end of the day."
As the Masters Tournament unfolded behind the fence across Washington Road, Daly and Cladakis relaxed in front of their motor home, parked adjacent to Windsor Jewelers.
"Everything is $20," he said, autographing a hat for a fan. "That makes it easy."
Daly, whose hard-living lifestyle made him a controversial figure in the proper world of professional golf, isn't in the Masters this year. His last appearance was in 2006, when he shot 74-79 to miss the cut.
With PGA Championship and British Open wins to his credit, however, and 12 Masters appearances under his belt, including a tie for third in 1993, Daly said he has plenty of golf left in him.
After they leave Augusta, the couple is headed for Myrtle Beach, S.C., where Daly will compete in the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament.
"Next year," Cladakis said, gesturing across the street at Augusta National, "we'll be in there."
