Oliver Wilson Diary: Game goes all wrong

Masters Week is a homecoming of sorts for 28-year-old Englishman Oliver Wilson, who played for Augusta State University from 2000 to 2003. Wilson became the school's only three-time All-American who, as a senior, was briefly ranked the No. 1 collegiate golfer. Wilson is sharing his experiences in his Masters debut with The Augusta Chronicle in a diary.

He followed an opening 73 with 75 in the second round. At 4-over-par, he missed the cut by three shots.

I'm very disappointed. It's about the worst I could've possibly scored. I played all right. On shots around the hole I played decent. I just didn't score very well. Pretty much every time I missed the green, every time I hit it in the bunker or around the green, it was a bad lie and it was almost impossible to get up and down.

I hit some good drives. I hit a good drive on No. 15 where I needed to make birdie. It kicked straight right into the trees. Everything just seemed to go wrong.

I just putted awful. I holed nothing all week. Yesterday, I hit a lot of good putts and nothing went in. And today, I didn't hit a lot of good putts. I had a lot of chances, holeable putts, but nothing went in.

I don't think I holed anything outside six feet. Even inside I missed most of them.

It's just been a woeful two days on the greens. And it's not anything to do with the speed of them or the toughness of them. It was just me.

I hit it all right today. I played pretty good on the back nine. I hit one bad shot on the No. 10 tee, which is a tough tee shot for me, and I overdid it. Apart from that, I hit good tee shots. I hit pretty good shots into the greens. I had a chance to make birdie on No. 13, and I didn't make birdie from a perfect tee shot. I didn't birdie No. 15.

Any time I missed a green it was a bogey. It wasn't from hitting a bad chip. If I left myself anything, I missed it. I just hit a lot of shots where I was almost dead.

The course was as easy as it's ever going to play. The greens threw me a little bit with how slow they were.

Around the greens, there's a lot of grass on them. At No. 7, I hit a shot from the bunker to the back fringe, and normally it would have rolled back within four or five feet, and it stayed on the back. It never even moved. Shots like that I really didn't know what to do.

On a positive note, I feel like I can win around here. It's a good course. It's just a shame I wasn't playing better. If I would've been playing better, I would've been right in contention without a doubt. I now know the course is very scoreable. It's not as hard as you tend to think, at least not these two days. It's just when you miss the greens, you've got to get up and down and hole putts.

It was great to have my family and friends here. I'm a bit disappointed I didn't give them anything to cheer about over the weekend. It was such a boring two days, golfwise.

I've got three weeks off. I feel like I need three weeks off to get away from it a little bit.

I'm going to spend some time with my mom and dad. And that'll give me some time to work on things for The Players Championship.
