Cabrera, Perry don't repeat drama
The patrons standing on the first tee Sunday around 1 p.m. might have experienced a feeling of deja vu when they saw Angel Cabrera and Kenny Perry paired for the final round, but if Cabrera and Perry felt any such sensation, Cabrera wasn't letting on.
The Argentinian and Perry played together in last year's final Sunday pairing at the Masters Tournament -- and Cabrera rallied from two strokes behind with two holes remaining to tie Perry before beating the 48-year-old and Chad Campbell in a playoff.
"I have played with Kenny many times, even after last year's final pairing," Cabrera said. "I've been playing with him all along. Of course it's nice to play with him, but it's nothing special."
There would be no Sunday fireworks from the pair this year, as Cabrera shot 1-under-par 71 to tie for 18th at 1-under.
Perry shot 74 to tie for 26th at 1-over in what might be his final Masters appearance.
The Kentuckian has played the event 10 times, but he never finished better than 12th before last year. He will turn 50 in August -- which would allow him to play the Champions Tour -- and is undecided on whether he will play the PGA Tour or move to the senior circuit.
A move would make it more difficult for him to return to Augusta next year.
Perhaps Perry sensed that after Sunday's round.
He didn't talk to reporters after signing his scorecard, and he packed up his equipment and left Augusta National Golf Club shortly after dropping three strokes on the final nine holes.
The week had a more positive conclusion for Cabrera, who needed a clutch birdie putt on the 18th hole Friday to make the 3-over cut on the nose.
Cabrera played the tournament's final 29 holes at 6-under-par to complete his week as defending champion in style.
"I felt all week that it was very special," Cabrera said. "I didn't have a very good start in the first two rounds, but in the end, I'm very pleased with where I am in the tournament -- that, I believe, is a very good finish."
