Tianlang Guan, the 14-year-old Chinese amateur, opened the Masters with 1-over-par 73. He is the low amateur in the field, three shots ahead of Steven Fox.

A self-described short-hitter, Guan averaged 276 yards off the tee. He hit nine fairways and eight greens and needed just 26 putts (no three-putts). He capped his day by rolling in a putt from just off the green at No. 18 for birdie.
