Rain might put a damper on practice rounds Monday and Tuesday at Augusta National Golf Club, but the National Weather Service is predicting a sunny and dry final round to the Masters Tournament.

Late last week, the weather service said a weather system from the Gulf of Mexico was expected to come through the area on Sunday and could remain through Wednesday, bringing rain and cool temperatures. Meteorologist Tony Petrolito said Sunday things should clear up as early as Tuesday.

“We’re going to have rain (Monday) and some strong to severe thunderstorms beginning in the afternoon on through Tuesday morning,” Petrolito said. “(Tuesday) is going to be cool and cloudy, but there will be nothing significant.

Monday’s high is expected to reach the mid 70s, and the temperature should drop to the mid-50s later that evening, he said. There’s a 100 percent chance of rain on Monday.

Tuesday is expected to remain cloudy, setting the tone for the middle of the week.

“It’s going be slightly cooler through the middle of the week,” Petrolito said, adding that average high on Wednesday and Thursday should remain in the low- to mid-70s.

Temperatures are predicted to begin a slow rise Friday as humidity drops to near zero heading into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to warm up to about 80 degrees.
