Ryan Palmer hit his first drive Friday at the Masters Tournament into a bunker.

The 38-year-old Texan three-putted No. 5 for a double bogey. Then he added a bogey two holes later.

But when all was played out Friday, Palmer had made his third cut in five Masters and is looking at his glass as half full.

“I was pleased the way I survived, I guess you could say,” Palmer said.

Palmer shot 2-over 74 Friday finishing with a 1-under 143 at the midway mark.

“If you don’t make the cut you can’t win it,” Palmer said. “Unfortunately, making the cut here isn’t going to win it the way Jordan (Spieth) is going here. But it’s still good. I have a chance to play really good on the weekend and slip in and get a top 10 or a top five. You never know.”
