Bernhard Langer, the 58-year-old two-time Masters champion, shot 73 on Friday and is tied for 15th at 1-over, five shots behind leader Jordan Spieth. Davis Love III, who will turn 52 next week, matched that 73 and is tied for 23rd at 2-over.
Davis Love III couldn't believe what he was seeing on a putt from the back of the green at Augusta National Golf Club's 14th hole during Thursday's first round.
His putt caught the top of the bank perfectly, and the ball started rolling to the hole.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - There was nothing overrated about Rickie Fowler at The Players Championship.
Criticized this week by his peers as an underachiever, Fowler answered with the greatest finish in the 34-year history at the TPC Sawgrass. He rallied from a five-shot deficit on the back nine by playing the final six holes in 6-under par. In a three-hole playoff, he took on every shot. And he made birdie from inside 6 feet three times Sunday on the island-green 17th.
Russell Henley, one of six former University of Georgia players in the field, shot his first career round in the 60s at Augusta National. With 4-under 68, he was second in the clubhouse at the time he finished, one shot behind Charley Hoffman.
Masters patrons have spotted caddies using a very old-school device to help their players decipher Augusta National Golf Club's greens during practice rounds: small carpenter's levels, with the bubble in a tube showing whether a surface is even, or listing to one side or another.
