Binoculars give patron a good view

Luke Donald struggles, but makes Masters cut

There were no scorecard issues for Luke Donald on Friday. Just not enough birdies for the world’s No. 1-ranked player. The Englishman shot 1-over-par 73 on Friday after his opening 75, and made the cut by a shot at 148. ...

Player notes

Even if Luke Donald didn't want to know where he was on the board as he made a charge, it would be a challenge to stay oblivious to it all. Donald, who is trying to become the first player to win the Par-3 Contest and the green jacket in the same year, had 3-under 69 on Saturday to stay in contention.

Donald still has shot at ending Par-3 jinx

With his 4-under-par 68 on Friday, Luke Donald put himself in position to challenge for his first Masters Tournament title. Should everything fall into place for him Sunday, the Englishman also would end a 51-year-old curse. No one has won the Par-3 Contest, as Donald did Wednesday, and the Masters in the same year.

Donald takes on Par-3 challenge seriously, wins

Luke Donald came to the final hole of the Par-3 Contest with two options: hit a ball into the water or go for the win, knowing that no Par-3 winner has ever won the Masters Tournament in the same year. Donald is not superstitious. He made birdie and carded a 5-under-par 22, winning by one stroke over Raymond Floyd and Angel Cabrera.

Donald is a consistent threat

After steamrolling the world's elite in the Match Play -- needing just 89 holes to win his six matches while never trailing and never playing the 18th hole -- Donald buried any notions that he's a mild competitor. Capping such a strong run, he looks stronger than ever entering the major season.

Europeans turn in solid performances

The strongest bids to break Europe's major championship drought ended Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club with a wild drive by Justin Rose, a water ball by Padraig Harrington and too much spin from Luke Donald.

Donald's game ages as well as his hobby

If a nonsports hobby can prepare a golfer for winning a major championship, Luke Donald has picked the right pursuit.

Donald's second shot

Luke Donald doesn't mean to come across as brash when he says he expects to win the Masters Tournament this week.

Donald is on quiet mission to prove he can go the distance
