Craig Stadler recalls first Masters round with Jack Nicklaus

Craig Stadler recalled the first time he played the Masters in 1974 as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion. Paired up with Jack Nicklaus, Stadler, the 1982 Masters champ, approached the top player in the game and introduced himself. Nicklaus looked him in the eye, replying he knew he Stadler was. Stadler, for all intents and purposes, was done.

"He teed off first, I teed off second, and I teed off second on every single hole," Stadler said. "Didn't beat him a hole, 67 to I think 79 later, we were done.

"So, yeah, I shot 79 my first round and 79 on my last so far. "
