When it comes to sporting events, there aren’t many that Sage Steele hasn’t anchored for ESPN.

This year alone, Steele – the lead host of SportsCenter on the Road – has covered the Super Bowl, the World Series, the College Football Playoff and most recently the NCAA Final Four. Now, she can check Augusta National and the Masters Tournament off her list.

“I’m in awe,” Steele said moments after a segment Wednesday for SportsCenter. “It’s also a little intimidating. This is an amazing place and everyone tried to prepare me for how it would feel. You know, I don’t think that was possible. I mean it.”

Steele will be on the grounds through Sunday as an ESPN anchor.

“As a sports fan, you just have to take a deep breath and appreciate the history (at Augusta National),” said Steele. “What’s happened here, as well what we’re about to see, that’s what makes this place so special. For 21 years, I’ve been covering all types of events and the Masters has always been on the top of my list. I can’t believe it’s happening.”

Steele has been a television personality for two decades – a career she began at a CBS affiliate in South Bend, Ind. She says there’s a different feel at Augusta.

“Driving through the gates, I kind of felt like Alice in Wonderland,” Steele said. “It’s a whole different world. Just the beauty – it’s so overwhelming. Of course, now I need to go home and work on my yard.”
