Patton Kizzire matches first-round 70 score

Patton Kizzire shot another 70 in the second round to finish at 4-under 140. It is 12 shots lower than last year at his first Masters, where he had rounds of 76-76 and missed the cut.

The St. Simons Island resident played in the first threesome of the day, which absorbed some early rain. Kizzire said his opening bogey, after chipping over the green and into the left bunker, was partly the result of not being able to get in a good practice session in the rain, and “skidding” his chip off wet grass.

“I don’t feel like I got a proper warm-up,” he said. “On the range it was tough. But I got up and down [for bogey] and stayed patient."

Kizzire birdied No. 2, then made 11 pars in a row before a short birdie putt at No. 14. He closed with a 7-foot birdie putt after hitting from the first of the two fairway bunkers at No. 18.

“I’m more experienced, more mature,” he said. “These past two weeks I’ve been at home really practicing, visualizing all the shots, trying to be as consistent as I can.”
