Amateur hopes to play to weekend, use short game

A successful Masters Tournament for Chang-Woo Lee would be if he tees off Saturday.

The 2013 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship winner is making his first Masters appearance at age 20.

“My first goal here at the Masters is to make the cut, and after that, if I make the cut, I wish to play in the low 20s,” Lee said.

Lee played five holes Monday with fellow South Korean K.J. Choi before weather halted play.

In each of the past three years, the Asia-Pacific Amateur winner safely made the cut. Lee said strength around the greens makes up for issues elsewhere.

“I think that the Asian players are not that strong in distance than the players in the United States or in Europe, but since they have kind of a short distance (off the tee), they work hard on their short games, and I think working hard on the short game is pretty much important than the distance,” Lee said.
