Hideki Matsuyama chips to No. 18 during the second round of the Masters Tournament.

Hideki Matsuyama will enter the weekend in a familiar position.

The Japanese golfer, who finished fifth in last year’s Masters Tournament, is tied for fifth after 36 holes. The 24-year-old shot 71 on Thursday and followed it up with a second-round 72. He will begin Saturday’s round three strokes behind leader Jordan Spieth.

Despite windy conditions, Matsuyama hit 12 of 14 fairways Friday and hasn’t three-putted this week. On Friday, he was the only player to make consecutive birdies on Nos. 12, 13 and 14.
