Two-time champ Bernhard Langer lands in top 10

Bernhard Langer has gone from missing the Masters cut for years to seeing his name on the leaderboard.

With help from an eagle on the second hole, the two-time champion shot 3-under-69 on Sunday to end his tournament at even par. It was his best round since he shot 69 in the third round in 2004.

“It was a beautiful start,” said Langer, 56. “I birdied the first and then hit a beautiful 3-wood on 2. Had to hook it 20, 25 yards and landed nicely between the bunkers, rolled up and around and finished about four feet behind the hole. Nice to see the ball that close.”

Langer, who won at Augusta in 1985 and 1993, made the cut last year for the first time since 2005. He finished at 2-over and tied for 25th. This year, he finished in the top 10.

Langer was one of a record six players older than 50 to make the cut and shaved off two shots with his weekend play.

“There’s a lot of good over-50 players,” he said. “We can compete at the highest level and even on a very, very long golf course like this one.”
